Lou Janis, President called the meeting to order at 1:35 pm, at the Wings of History Clubhouse.
The minutes from the June meeting were accepted as posted.
We discussed the September meeting, combined with EAA 62, in conjunction with their annual Poker Run and barbeque lunch. We will offer our own "Low and Slow" Poker Run, with cards available for pickup at the gas pumps at Watsonville, Hollister, South County, and Marina airports.
A petition was circulated at the meeting, and earlier in the day at the Hollister Airport, proposing removal of the present Airport Manager of the Hollister Airport.
This spurred discussion of the state of affairs at South County Airport. Rich Grialou voiced strong support of the So. Co. Management, in that in fact, the group there is trying hard to serve all pilots, in spite of conflicting rules, etc. His experience with airport management has been positive, and sometimes requires extra effort in communicating. They are open to communication and listen.
Norm Flisram, from Santa Clara County Airmen's Association, dropped by briefly, to put in a good word for SCCAA. He claims this group is powerful and represents a broad swath of pilots in the Bay Area. Apparently, they have a membership of about 200 people. Mr. Flisram can be reached at 650/964-8124. The website is www.sccaa.com. He invited us to check them out and join the group.
Vaughn McIlrath asked a question: "What would it take to develop a Sport Airport?" John Feemster addressed that with a couple of guidelines: First, County Approval is the greatest hurdle, and secondly, it's far simpler to have it be a Private field or Private Airpark, rather than public. Another key factor is that there must be support (or lack of objection) from all neighboring properties in the vicinity.
Steve White mentioned that there are excellent courses available on line, through the FAA's Wings Program and through AOPA. Here are the links:

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 pm.
