Minutes: July 15, 2006, Meeting of EAA Ultralight Squadron 110

The meeting was a poker-run, fly-in, and party joint effort with EAA 62 (Reid Hillview) and EAA 1264 (Hollister).

The following is from an e-mail from Terri Gorman, President, EAA Chapter 62/RHV, to John Gould:

Thanks to all who came and enjoyed the great camaraderie of fellow EAA chapter 62, 110 and 1264 members in a poker run with the first ever Ultralight participation. We counted 50 to 55 people present and had eight pilots who flew off the Poker/Blackjack Run with Three winners.

With the temperature setting record highs, smoke blocking the poker run and a TFR to boot, it was a miracle poker day. EAA110 was a double poker winner. For the first time there was an Ultralight Blackjack Run, organized by Rich Grialou. Blade Doyle took first place in the Ultralights division. RichG took second place in the regular division and in an experimental aircraft, as well.

Blade Doyle, Ultralight pilot and Chapter 110 member, won a book on Weather and Clouds for the best Blackjack hand.  Thanks to Rich Grialou for organizing the first Ultralight poker run.  He created the card envelopes so Terri could distribute them to the airports with 10 for each airport, So. County, Hollister, Gustine and Los Banos.

Ed Owens, EAA Chapter 1264/Hollistser, won the $100 gift certificate provided by Aircraft Spruce and donated by EAA Chapter 62. Rich Grialou, of Chapters 62 and 110, won the flight with Robin and/or Marici Reid in their Swick-T, a Taylorcraft, owned by the Reids.

There was Great food and great prizes to go with the fellowship. Rusty Wells bought all the hamburgers and trimmings. EAA 110 picked up the drinks and snacks. All the drinks were consumed: water, soda. Did I see BEER!!!!! Not at the end, the cooks’ brew was sucked from the cooler way before that!

John and Rusty, Thanks a lot for procuring the food, drinks, charcoal and starting the fire and cooking the meal.  They gathered up the BBQ equipment and condiments into Rusty's wagon ramped within a wagon. John Gould and Gloria Watson grilled the meat while Barbara Waldtrip organized the kitchen. Cleanup thanks go to Mary Blue and the Chapter 110 wives in the kitchen.

Everything worked out very well considering the short notice to other chapters.  But there's next year.   And EAA 62 will coordinate this with 110 and 1264 and we'll have a bigger and better party

Thanks again to all of you who participated in the Poker/Blackjack Run and in attending the Potluck.
