Minutes: June 17, 2006, Meeting of EAA Ultralight Squadron 110

The meeting was called to order at 1:35 pm at the Wings of History Clubhouse, by Club President, John Feemster. 20 souls on board.

The minutes of the February meeting were approved as published on our website, www.aerodromehq.com.

Treasurer’s Report: John Gould - We have $1635.59 in the account.

Hangars. The latest forecast of the new hangars being available at South Co. is by August 1. A hangar is available at Hollister with space (tight) for two airplanes. Contact John Feemster at feemster@sbcglobal.net. The new fence at Hollister is not yet complete, but when it is it may be troublesome. John F. suggested that if you use, or want to use, a hangar there, you should get your name onto the request list with the Airport Manager. The cost is $25/year to stay on the list.

Aircraft conversion to Sport. We are reminded that non-conforming Part 103 aircraft must be conforming, or converted to Sport Aircraft by 2008.

Pilots converting to Sport Pilot. We have two people nearby who can train people for the Sport Pilot Rating. Bill Bardin at Lodi ($115/hr for aircraft and instructor), and Brian Carpenter at Corning ($105/hr for aircraft and instructor).

Bob Meuse announced that he is purchasing EAA raffle tickets for a Piper J3 Cub. If he wins it, he will donate it to the Club. John Gould is joining the effort.

Frazier Lake Airpark (1C9) has a grass strip that is a great place for ultralight and light sport pilots to practice short/soft strip and crosswind landings.

Tech note: to get an idea of the range of turbulence you can expect downwind of hills, multiply the height of the hill times the wind speed. Use the resulting number as how many feet downwind from the hill you can expect turbulence. This can come into play at Hollister, affecting runway 31.

John Feemster recommended/reminded us to keep a logbook for ourselves – an item often overlooked in the ultralight world.

John Gould presented a painting of Russ Wells’ Cherokee N5700W to Rusty in honor of his constant flying support of the club. Thanks Rusty!
