Mike Ettl, President, convened the meeting in the Magnum facility, at South County Airport, 1:30 pm. 36 souls aboard.

Mike announced two special presentations for the meeting (more below), and acknowledged those of us who came to help Wings of History the previous Saturday, by making signs for the upcoming Open House in May. Thanks to George Nicholson, Rich Grialou, Vaughn McIlrath, and Mike Ettl.

The first presentation of the day was by John Benson, General Manager, and Mark Crouch, Shop Manager, about Magnum Aviation. Their purpose was to reach out to Light Sport and Ultralight flyers. Lots of information was shared, going both ways between the Club and Magnum.

There was to be a presentation by West Valley Flying Club, that failed to launch, due to misunderstood scheduling. John Benson did mention that W.V.F.C. was looking to find a leaseback arrangement for a Light Sport aircraft to use for L.S. instruction.

The second presentation was about the Golden West EAA Regional Fly-In at Yuba County Airport (MYV), Marysville, CA, June 29 – July 1. Irv Easton, president of EAA 526 in Auburn gave a general rundown of the program and asked for volunteers to assist, during the week of preparation and during the weekend of the show.

Ken McKenzie, president of EAA 393, Concord, gave a detailed description of the program, the layout of the field, camping, etc, with assistance from his wife, Linda.

All the presenters were looking for feedback from Ultralight and Sport pilots, and got plenty of that.

Mike Ettl will tow his “Toybox” trailer to Golden West and will haul some support and camping gear, etc., for the people who will be flying ultralights to the show.

Vaughn McIlrath will be the planner/coordinator who will be responsible for flight planning to and from the show.

Mike covered a calendar of events:

April 7: Castle AFB Museum Tour – Lou Janis. Lou has secured a reduced admission charge for our group.

May 5: “Low & Slow” Poker Run – Rich Grialou and Steve White.

May 19: Wings of History/ South County Airport Day Annual Fly-In. We need volunteers and one more ultralight for display at WOH. Bring your airplane.

Also, we need a volunteer to step up to the plate as our coordinator for the event.

June 2: EAA BBQ and Fly-In at E16.

June 29 – July 1: Golden West Fly-In, Marysville.

B17 Flying Fortress making a tour of California in April and May. Mary Doherty has information about it.

Weatherly Hangar, Hollister: The City of Hollister is holding a meeting next Wednesday, the 21st, at 1:30 pm, in the City Hall. It is suspected that Weatherly Hangar is on the agenda. At this time, it is difficult to tell what is going on. Tim Floyd and John Feemster are watching developments and keeping e-mail notices coming.

Recovery Trailer Project – John Gould is working on it.

Jim Doherty’s Rolling Boneyard is working, under the auspices of EAA 119 (WVI) and it has entire airplanes waiting for adoption. Donations are tax-deductible.

50-50 Raffle: Jim Shaw and Ron Smith left the meeting early, turned their tickets in to Vaughn with instructions to give the entire pot back to the Club, if their tickets produced a winner. They did. The Club made $92 thanks to them. Two packets of EAA forms and instructions were included in the raffle. One went to Tim Floyd, and RD Gomez won the other one, then gave it to the “Low & Slow” Poker Run effort.

The meeting was closed at about 4:00 pm.
