February 21, 2004 EAA Chapter 110 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Mike Reynolds at 9:30 am. 21 people attending.

1. New attendees Minal Mistry and Alec Chattaway were introduced by Mike Reynolds. They were old members but had not attended in a while.

2. Old Business:
a. Mike discussed memorial contributions for Bill Dieck and Jim Riley. Our chapter treasury will make contributions of $100.00 each in the names of Dieck and Jim. Mike will talk to Laurie Dieck about changing Dieck’s contribution from the Lupus Society to the Wings of History. Jim Riley’s contribution will go to the Wings of History. If any of the membership wants to add more it will be included in the contribution. John Feemster pledged two additional contributions of $50.00. A motion was made and seconded to allocate $200.00 from the treasury. It passed by unanimous vote.
b. John Feemster provided an update to the GT500 accident investigation. The contact speed was initially estimated to be 90 mph but after John discussed the incident with USUA and Quicksilver personnel he modified his report to make it 70 mph. The two page summary report will be sent to USUA and Quicksilver and is available for the membership to read if they are interested.
c. John Feemster sold his Kitfox and is waiting to see how the loss of the GT500 will be handled before he makes his final cash contribution to the chapter.

3. New Business
a. Mike Reynolds reported that the Independence High School aircraft construction project is ready to be moved from the school for final assembly, painting and flight testing. The High School will not allow it to be moved without an insurance policy that will cost $1600.00. This policy will also cover the first flight. Mike has some other immediate obligations for parts that were purchased and not reimbursed. When the chapter has sufficient funds the completion of this project will be first priority. Mike announced that Laurie Dieck is willing to turn over Dieck’s hangar at Hollister to the Chapter if the Chapter will pick up the rent, ($300.00/month). No vote was taken at this time as to proceeding with the hangar.
b. Mike announced that EAA Chapter 62 (San Jose) wants to bring all of the local EAA chapters together and are organizing a picnic to be held on July 10. Location will be determined.
c. A motion was made to end the Chapter business meeting and proceed with the social gathering. The motion was seconded and carried by a unanimous vote.

Newsletter Notes:

This is new format. We need suggestions about how to do this. Above are Rich’s official notes that get filed with the EAA. The rest of this is Vaughn’s notes, about what happened between and after the meeting.

Round Robin, and beyond:

Mike Reynolds – We need to consider what sort of aircraft could best serve training and educational aspects of the club. Here are some ideas:

Genesis (Slipstream Industries). http://www.action-ultralights.com/genesis-info.htm

John Feemster’s Quicksilver MXLII Sport – needs a lightweight instructor so that it can accommodate most of our members.

Skyranger. http://www.sabretrikes.com/skyranger.html

Dave Hilpert has a set of 3 scales and will assist any member in weighing and producing a weight-and-balance for their aircraft. Contact Dave at dhilpert@ix.netcom.com

Rusty Wells has acquired a device for measuring static thrust from 0 – 450#, available if we can get the box open.

John Feemster brought up Safety as an issue that needs full attention, suggesting that we have regular discussions. Mike Reynolds asked for volunteers to serve as a Safety Committee and to develop a Standard Operating Procedure for the club. Those on the committee:

Mike Reynolds

John Feemster

Dave Hilpert

(maybe Rusty Wells)

George Nicholson asked who in the room would be interested in forming a share-holders’ group (or groups) to share in owning an airplane. A large number of hands went up. If you’re interested, contact George: gwnich@earthlink.net

John Gould will have a hangar at South County Airport in September.

John says that there is an airplane that will be donated to us from San Jose State. It was a design/build project there and a one-of-a-kind. We can sell it for parts.

John also is offering two memberships in the Challenger owned by Lou Janis and himself, at $3000 per membership. Contact John at Gould42@aol.com

Mike Reynolds knows someone who can install corrosion control in your aircraft. (Seems that this guy has the same name, so he must be a trustworthy person.) Contact Mike at reynoldsmike@esuhsd.org

Several of us trooped on to Hollister and overwhelmed the Ding-A-Ling for lunch, and then rain that prevented serious flying fun for the afternoon.
